This Turquoise Sand Dollar necklace was created in Midcoast Maine by lobsterman, Sarah Kulis. Sarah started lobstering with her father at nine years old and has grown with the ocean as a part of her life ever since.
Sarah’s Sand Dollars began as an accident. One evening, as Sarah and her husband were enjoying wine by the fire, they spilled a glass of red wine on a pile of white sand dollars that had come up when she hauled her traps. Thinking the sand dollars were ruined, they left them in front of the wood stove overnight. The next morning, Sarah was pleasantly surprised by the brilliant pattern that had been exposed from the dye created by the wine.
Sparking inspiration from this “happy accident,” Sarah played with different colors and amounts of dye to gauge how each unique sand dollar would react. After many trials, and combinations of dyes and sealants, she found the perfect recipe used today on her gorgeous sand dollar pendants. Each one absorbs the colors differently, allowing the sand dollars natural patterns and beauty to shine through. Her protective layers of sealant allow you to preserve this seaside treasure for years to come.
Choose your sand dollar pendant necklace knowing that its as unique and one-of-a-kind as you.
