This Chicken Pottery is made by Robbi of Maple Lane Pottery.
Maple Lane Pottery began in 1988 when Robbi Fritz Portela moved from a wonderful small farm in southern New Hampshire to what would become Maple Lane Farm in Windsor, Maine with her husband Bill. Robbi started out by teaching pottery classes in a small studio in the leaky and drafty barn. A few years later she and Bill had renovated the downstairs ell of their 1800’s farmhouse into a heated studio and small gallery. The gallery soon outgrew this space and was moved to the upstairs of the partially restored, three story post and beam barn which is now Maple Lane Gallery.
The rural landscape, farm animals and wildlife that inhabits her are a constant inspiration for Robbi’s pottery. On their farm you may see chickens, cows, horses, sheep, cats, rabbits or a dog who all keep Robbi’s life very busy, fun and lively! All of these creatures find their way into her clay work whether it is in her sculpture or painting.
Maple Lane Pottery is made from sturdy stoneware clay, each piece is hand made by Robbi. The work that Robbi produces is whimsical, functional and very durable. She strives to make pottery that is both beautiful and highly resilient. Every piece of pottery is individually painted and then fired in an electric kiln.
