This Sponge Holder is made by Becky of Becky Pottery.

Becky has always thrived in a creative environment, and it all started with making mud pies in the back yard as a child and having a blast getting messy. She spent her time playing, collecting eggs and helping around her family’s little farm in Vassalboro, Maine. Her mother was always incredibly supportive and encouraged her to work on craft projects, painting and coloring at the kitchen table. That love of creativity turned into a serious music passion at age 10 when she started to play clarinet. She was an extremely talented solo clarinetist all through middle and high school, and always taking art classes at the same time. When the time for choosing a college major came, she chose art over music.

In college, she took ceramics and felt like she was coming back to herself after many years away. Moving clay around with her hands felt familiar and brought a tremendous feeling of happiness and calm. After getting an Art degree, she made her living teaching elementary art in Maine for 19 years and making and selling pottery on the side.

Now a full time potter, she spends her work days in her home studio. Living in South Portland, she is surrounded by all the things she loves: the ocean, trees, rivers and horizons all inspire her work. And the community gives her a strong sense of belonging. Her family’s excitement for her work is seen everyday in my home. Her husband has his favorite Becky mug for coffee. Having her studio in her home allows her the precious time needed for their three kids. One of their two cats is always her studio buddy… hardly ever knocking things over.

Please note: This is handmade work. This means that her measurements can vary by 1/4″ or so, even though she is pretty accurate. Sometimes the colors vary in person compared to your screen, or they vary with glaze calculations or kiln temperament. This all adds to the beauty of the pottery you are buying. Dishwasher and microwave safe.
