Each of these individually handcrafted pens are made from old oak lobster traps that have been retired by Maine lobstermen. The discoloration and unique graining of each pen is caused by the many years each bit of oak has been soaking in the sea. We wonder how many lobsters these traps have caught and how many times the traps have been dropped to the ocean floor. The traps used are well beyond repair and wood have been discarded if they had not been saved and crafted into these beautiful pens.
The Lobster Trap Wood Pen is made by American Heritage Pens, a Maine based business crafting pens from small pieces of historic wood. They are honored to be the exclusive pen maker for the USS Constitution Museum. Over the years repairs have been made to America’s Ship of State the “USS Constitution”. The museum has provided wood removed during those repairs to be used by American Heritage. No one else has that honor. This is one of many histories available. Each refillable pen includes a history card which explains the importance of the wood used.
